The working principle of the return line filter


The return line filter is installed in series at the end of the return pipeline of hydraulic and lubrication systems. It realizes oil purification through dual mechanisms of physical interception and differential pressure protection, with the specific process as follows:


Contaminated hydraulic oil or lubricating oil mixed with metal wear debris and colloidal particles flows into the filter housing under system pressure. The dirty oil is forced to pass through the built-in filter element. With the screening and adsorption of tiny pores on the filter material, solid impurities are trapped on the outer layer or inside the filter element, while clean oil flows through and returns to the oil tank.


As impurities accumulate gradually, the filter element becomes clogged and the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet rises continuously. When the pressure difference reaches the set value, the built-in bypass safety valve opens automatically, allowing unfiltered oil to flow back directly. This prevents pipeline overpressure, oil pump overload and pipeline rupture, ensuring continuous system operation.


Some models are equipped with a differential pressure transmitter. It will send an electrical signal once the pressure difference exceeds the standard, reminding users to replace the filter element in a timely manner and maintain long-term oil cleanliness.
