What are the differences in applicable working conditions between Mahle stainless steel powder sintered filter elements and glass fiber filter elements?

Distinguished by material properties, Mahle sintered metal powder filter elements and glass fiber filter elements are applied to distinctly different working conditions.

Constructed mainly from graded composite glass fiber, glass fiber filter elements are available in filtration ratings ranging from 3 μm to 25 μm. Featuring large dirt holding capacity and favorable cost performance, they match conventional mineral hydraulic oil services and are commonly deployed for pressure and return-line filtration on standard machine tools, injection molding machines and general hydraulic power stations, performing optimally under normal ambient and oil temperatures. Nevertheless, they cannot withstand high temperatures or strongly corrosive fluids; prone to clogging by gelatinous sludge when exposed to over-aqueous or thermally degraded oil, and susceptible to material aging and failure under sustained temperatures exceeding 120℃.

Fabricated via high-temperature sintering of stainless steel powder, sintered stainless steel filter cartridges boast high mechanical strength, continuous temperature tolerance up to 280℃, good compatibility with water-based fluids, fire-resistant liquids and mildly corrosive media, alongside superior pressure and impact resistance. They fit high-temperature hydraulic loops in metallurgy, fire-resistant oil systems in power plants, water-containing hydraulic circuits in chemical industry, as well as mining hydraulic equipment with hard, abrasive particulate contaminants. However, their uniform pore configuration results in limited dirt holding capacity and faster differential pressure buildup under fine dust pollution, accompanied by substantially higher procurement cost versus glass fiber alternatives.

Quick selection guideline: Choose glass fiber filters for normal-temperature mineral oil applications prioritizing service life; opt for sintered stainless steel filters for high-temperature, fire-resistant fluid, corrosive media and severe heavy-duty operating environments.
